The Bevis Marks Synagogue project, completed in 2021, represents O’Sullivan Civil Engineering’s highest level of expertise in heritage conservation and sensitive structural works to Grade I listed buildings of national importance.
As the oldest synagogue in the City of London, this historically priceless building required exceptional care and specialist techniques throughout. Our comprehensive scope encompassed underpinning operations in severely restricted access conditions, precision groundwork protecting ancient foundations, drainage system installation, and reinforced concrete works to the vault, annex and undercroft spaces. Significant archaeological discoveries during excavation—including Roman walls dating to London’s earliest period and a Tudor fire pit – required meticulous coordination with archaeologists and English Heritage.
This landmark conservation project demonstrates our proven capability to deliver complex structural interventions to irreplaceable historic buildings while uncovering and preserving archaeological treasures, maintaining the highest conservation standards throughout.”
